The one-year college program (OYCP) secures you a JAG position after successfully completing a one-year AFROTC program, law school, and legal licensing requirements. The program is a three-year position that includes rotations through our seven legal practice groups, which include operational authorities; Operational support; legislation; litigation; Acquisition, research and technology law; Law and politics; and Administrative and Ethical Law. “This is a great opportunity for law students to gain first-hand experience working in the public sector and learn more about the armed forces,” said Dunlap, whose 34-year career with the Air Force`s JAG Corps included four years as deputy general counsel. The FLEP is a paid law school program for active duty Air Force officers. The FLEP is an allocation campaign, and participants receive full salaries, stipends and tuition fees. FLEP applicants must have between two and six years of active service (enrolled or commissioned) and must be of grade O-3 or less on the day they begin law school. FleP is subject to tuition fee restrictions, and positions may be limited due to the general availability of funding.
The Enrolment-Funded Legal Education Program (E-FLEP) is a commissioning program. E-FLEP selections are sent to the Officer Training School before starting law school. The Audit Committee takes place in February. Selection is made on the basis of a review of the entire application package using a “whole person” concept. The Graduate Law Program (BPL) guarantees you a JAG position after successfully completing a two-year AFROTC program, law school, and legal licensing requirements. I was the legal advisor to the Special Operations Working Group and my main role was to advise the SOTF Commander on martial law/LOAC/Operational Authorities issues while reviewing tax transactions, advising on administrative investigations and essentially everything that came up (apart from providing legal advice to individual soldiers). “I have no military training and I am the first in my family to attend law school. The JAG Corps is the uniformed legal arm of each of the five traditional branches of the U.S. Armed Forces: Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and Navy. The Air Force`s JAG Corps provides legal services to the sixth branch, the Space Force, which was established in December 2019. “Based on conversations with JAG lawyers and my own research, I believe that working with the Jag Corps will combine what I want in a legal career with other exciting areas of law that I hope to explore. “I am honored to have been selected for the 2022 Summer Day School with the Air Force JAG Corps in Charleston, South Carolina. Before studying law, I worked in the United States for three years. Attorney`s Office for the Southern District of New York as a paralegal in criminal cases and special assistant to the United States Attorney. There, I discovered a passion for law enforcement and worked on an executive staff. The ELP is an unpaid legal education program for Air Force officers (this program is not open to recruited members). ELP participants do not receive remuneration or allowances, but remain in active service to improve pension provision and benefits. ElP applicants must have between two and 10 years of active service, must be in grade O-3 or less on the first day of law school, and must not be more than three years in class if an O-3.
2) The Graduate Law Program (BPL) is designed for first-year law students who wish to participate in the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) for two years while studying law. The one-year college program (OYCP) is designed for second-year law students who wish to attend AFROTC for one year while studying law. The JAG Corps does not award scholarships for participation in GLP/OYCP. However, students who successfully complete the BPL/OYCP will receive a position in the JAG Corps once they have met all the licensing requirements of the JAG Corps.
