The course explores areas where legal technology is changing legal practice – e-discovery, legal operations and privacy/security. Students learn about the technological state of the legal industry today and learn what the future holds. As artificial intelligence, data analytics and cybersecurity continue to emerge, the traditional model of legal service delivery is no longer sufficient to meet growing client expectations. The first section of the course teaches the basics of technological competence for lawyers, covering both the use of technology to serve clients and the privacy and security concerns related to this technology. The second segment introduces the concepts of e-disovery and presents an in-depth overview of the technology and processes used by successful practitioners. The final segment will be expanded to cover more of the technology applicable to both corporate legal groups and law firms and the suppliers they serve.
